Introducing Ourselves

Two 17 year old Americans walk into a pub...

Unfortunately, there’s no punchline, seeing as the drinking age in England is 18.

Anyways, my name is Alejandra and I’m from the sunny state of California. This summer, I’ll be spending three weeks on the picturesque campus of Oxford University.

After landing in Heathrow airport, I began mingling with all the fellow teenagers who had also signed up for the program. And what’s one of the best ways to make a new friend, you may ask? The best answer I can think of is talking about food, of course.

Cue Alexis (my editor, conspirator, and muse). We instantly bonded over how extremely horrid traveling over the Atlantic can be as well as both having lofty goals for our time in Oxford. We each had a list of all the restaurants and shops we had heard of and wanted to visit whilst abroad. This is how the “Oxford Food Bucket List of 2019” was born.

After compiling our own list of places, questioning the RA’s (resident assistants) about their personal favorites, and doing brief research on if and where we could find decent sushi, we had a game plan. 20 some-odd places in 21 days and a rough draft of a calendar  to help guide us along the way—

Follow our journey as we attempt to eat our way through Oxford without completely draining our wallets and disappointing our scales.
